This species is mostly diurnal and becomes active in the early morning and late evening. The ecology and behavior of this species are poorly understood. It has been observed inside dens and under rocks. It is a solitary species, although mating pairs and females with young have been observed. During foraging, it frequently pauses and stands on its hind legs to inspect the surroundings. Its diet consists of arthropods, rodents, reptiles, birds, eggs, and occasionally fruits and seeds.
