It is a nocturnal species. It digs burrows in the soil, mainly on hillsides. The burrow contains a nesting chamber, and its architecture changes seasonally, becoming deeper and having more entrances in summer. This species is solitary and maintains a defined home range. Its diet mainly consists of seeds, grains, stems, and other vegetation.
