A large viper reaching 220 cm, with variable grey or brown colour and transverse markings. It may be active by day or night and feeds on lizards, birds, mammals and other snakes. The supplied account reports it widely in Kurdistan, mainly below roughly 2,000–2,100 metres. This is a venomous species.
