This species inhabits freshwater streams, including those modified by human activities. In the Kurdistan Region, it is a relatively rare species, recorded only from the Hawraman area of Halabja Governorate and Penjween in Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Habitat loss, pollution, anthropogenic pressures, and climate change are the key threats facing this species in the Kurdistan Region.
