This species is nocturnal and usually emerges from its roost about 30 minutes after sunset, although it may occasionally be active before sunset. It roosts in caves, tunnels, buildings, and crevices, forming small colonies or large winter hibernation colonies of thousands of individuals. Roost sharing with other bat species has also been recorded. It is insectivorous, feeding mainly on spiders, flies, caterpillars, beetles, moths, centipedes, and other insects.
