It has been recorded from Bamo and Khoshk Mountains in the Garmian area; near Darbandikhan Dam and Basne Village in Sulaimani Governorate; and Sakran and Halgurd Mountains in Erbil Governorate. A fossil of this species has been recorded from the archaeological sites of Hazar Merd and Shanidar Caves. Governorate: Erbil; Sulaymaniyah

It is active throughout the day and night, with peak activity occurring at dusk and dawn. It is an excellent digger, and most of its activities take place within underground tunnels.
