This is the most common amphibian species in the Kurdistan Region. It can be found in water bodies across a wide range of habitats. Males form loud choruses, especially during the breeding season in spring. The species is tolerant of high water salinity. Tadpoles are omnivorous, whereas adults are predators that primarily feed on insects, arachnids, fish, other amphibians, reptiles, and occasionally small rodents or birds.
