The status of this species remains uncertain in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. It has been listed in several publications for the Kurdistan Region, but without supporting scientific evidence. It has been reported to occur in Barwari-Bala, Duhok Governorate, but this record remains unconfirmed. Its elliptical vertical pupil is a distinctive feature that helps distinguish it from other frog and toad species in the region. It is nocturnal and primarily feeds on insects, other invertebrates, and molluscs.
