It is a nocturnal species, although it is occasionally active during the day, particularly near the entrance of its burrow. It digs burrows with several entrances and chambers in the soil. At each entrance, there are mounds of excavated soil. In the KRI, we observed this species in the early morning at a burrow with two entrances; when it noticed us, it plugged both entrances. It is herbivorous, and its diet mainly consists of grasses, grains, roots, and cultivated fruits and vegetables.
