University of Duhok Faculty Participate in Key Meeting on Kurdistan Biodiversity Project in Erbil
Implemented through the Climate.KRD platform, Biodiversity.KRD project aims to collect, organize, and disseminate essential information about the region’s biodiversity. As part of the initiative, biodiversity.krd was recently launched as a dedicated trilingual database providing information in Kurdish, English, and scientific terminology. The platform includes species definitions, geographic distributions, conservation statuses, photographic records, and academic sources covering plants and animals across the region.

The First Documented Record of the Shikra in Kurdistan
While photographing birds near Ble in the Barzan area, Saber Dri documented and photographed a Shikra (Accipiter badius) a small bird of prey distinguished from the Eurasian Sparrowhawk by its reddish iris and distinct plumage. Confirmed by biodiversity expert Dr. Korosh Ararat and an Italian specialist, this marks the first documented record of the species in Kurdistan and Iraq, with efforts underway to formally add it to official regional bird lists.
